APO33 WORKSHOPS
CHAOSLAB workshop
experience #2 (HAKART): random evolution & aperiodic bifurcation workshop in Piksel
Chaotic systems & indeterminacy. Chaoslab creates sensitive dependence on initial conditions, devices and inputs by having evolution through phase space (installation/workshop within a place) that appears to be quite random. Our Chaotic models seem to be deployed to ascertain various kinds of activities related to bifurcation points (uncontrolled steps of evolution within the workshop), period doubling sequences (or should we said multiple sequences), the onset of chaotic dynamics proposed by the participants, the strange attractors between sources, filters, amplifications, connections and other denizens of the chaos zoo of hacked behaviors. Chaoslab erase the lower limit on how small change or perturbation can be—the smallest of effects will eventually be amplified up within the whole process. This act of amplification depend on the nature of particular kinds of nonlinear dynamics—those which exhibit stretching and folding (confinement) of trajectories, where there are no trajectory crossings, and which exhibit aperiodic orbits—apparently open the door for quantum effects to change the behavior of chaotic macroscopic systems. Is CHAOSLAB a real phenomenon? Aside from irregular behavior of real-world, ie everyday life systems of maintenance, CHAOSLAB is also invoked to explain features like the actual trajectories exhibited in a given state space (piksel festival) or the sojourn times (2 to 4 days) of trajectories in particular regions of state space.

WORKSHOP on space and on habitus issues – sounds, language and digital devices
Introduction For 5 days, we'll be working on our perception of space by questioning 'habitus', understood as habit plus habitat. What does it mean, to 'live in' (inhabit) a place ? How does our habitat influence our behaviour ? How can we change our habits and behaviours ? Or the way we perceive space ? How to act on space in order to modify it, beyond its architectural dimension ? We'll question these issues in the course of 3 different workshops – with each looking at a particular dimension of our dwelling environment : behaviour and gestures, sounds (various vibrations) and signs (language, graphical…).
Over a week : The workshops will be organised along exercises that intend to catch (watch, collect) and act upon (through micro-movements or micro-interventions) these 3 dimensions, at the Nantes Ecole des Beaux-Arts. At various times, these workshops' participants will meet to discuss theory, to watch films and to listen to sound pieces. Those 'catchment' exercises on environment will proceed along some study work of the traces of movements and sensations of the week, for each participant. Everybody (singularly or collectively), will develop her/his own work (visual, written, audible) out of these traces and, simultaneously, question what is likely to leave a trace (sonic experience, sensation, movement…) : what is left, or comes out of it? All these form-traces can be presented at the end of the week, in a lecture, a display, a performance, a micro-installation…

Some of the main tools of the APODIO platform will be presented, cf: http://www.apodio.org , as well as some possible applications for creation and research in various media…
sound & environment : atelier du 21 au 25 mai 2007 - Chateau-Renault
Sound Environment, resounding archistruction, digital catch & interaction. Through various practices linked to soundscape or to sound environment, we'll look at immediate seizure out of a specific ground, or a landscape, by means of increased and amplified listening, via the construction of audio sensors or amplifiers; we'll examine also the connections of these recordings and tools with the digital, the concept of net-radio, and all the electro-acoustical chain. Beyond these elements, we'll study the concept of vibratory deconstruction of architecture or 'resounding archistruction', in order to improve on our approach to this 1000m2 building in the making, with sonic deconstruction or resounding activation. Every building is a cross of force and counter-force that concentrates some form of very high vibratory energy, and storms of earthquake frequencies oscillate this energy, sending basic frequencies to all constructive structures ; we'll try and develop our relationship to this building in two ways : through a very tense wire and through ultra-low impulses (in small doses) on its walls and other sensitive parts. Architecture by “frenquensounding” will create a potency of non-matter beyond any man-made matter, it will open our senses to another of its dimensions, it will be a non-construction through resounding archistruction.
DIY COMPUTER / GNU/LINUX / OPEN SOURCE - du 14 au 19 mai 2007 - PAF, Reims
Making machines for a 'free' environment (Gnu/Linux). 'Nadine' proposes APO33 to work with and assist artists/creators in carrying out their artistic projects with free software and a Gnu/Linux system.
APO33 @ DEAF FESTIVAL : du 10 au 29 avril 2007 - ROTTERDAM
APO33 introduces in DEAF (Dutch Electronic Art Festival), a workshop/performance/seminar on the question of “control vs infuence”. APO33 proposes a “hacking” of comptrollers IHM (MMI, man machine interface) through joystick & usb keyboard and looks at the influence of the network on our digital production/action. During the technical workshop, we'll also start a debate on the way practice and theory are interwoven, and we'll assess what might be at stake in our practices.
